I had breakfast with Eeyore at the Glacier Diner, then picked up my two packages from the Trading Post next door and made a sign that said “South”. I said goodbye to Eeyore and stood on the corner in East glacier for 5 minutes before getting a ride 10 miles west to Marias Pass from a fellow Canadian hiker named Eric.
I stood on highway 2 near a huge turnout for 15 minutes before getting another hitch from an awesome guy who works as a contractor for the BNR railroad. He gave me a ride all the way to the bus stop in Kalispell. I need to repay this good deed someday. This guy was super nice and just likes to help people. I wish I could at least remember his name. <sigh> On the way we stopped at a railroad yard and I helped him hook up a big compressor to the back of his pickup.
I had 3 hours before the bus to Missoula arrived, so I spent the time eating and going through my pack contents under a tree in front of a bank next to the gas station/bus stop. I had a bottle of Permethrin that Barb had sent to East Glacier, so I took this opportunity to spray some of my clothes. I’m sure the bank wasn’t thrilled to have a homeless guy hanging his clothes in the tree in front of their building, but the nice thing about being hiker trash is that I really don’t care. The bus was right on time. This was a smaller bus (short bus), but the driver kept it rolling right along. I have reservations at the Comfort Inn in Missoula. I plan to Uber there from the bus station.
