Day 83 East Glacier Zero

You can only get park permits within Glacier Park. The closest place is Two Medicine which is 15 miles north, so I took the shuttle from Glacier Lodge to Two Medicine.  Two Medicine is absolutely stunning.  The peaks go straight up and are all craggy and rugged.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  Rising Wolf peak is massive.  It climbs 4000 feet almost straight up.

The ranger at Two Medicine was not very accommodating. He’s one of those guys who tells you there are no campsites and then stares at you – like he’s waiting to see if you will just go away. I explained that I was hiking the CDT and was flexible on direction and campsites, etc. Eventually he became more helpful and gave me some very out of the way campsites. I’m in for a lot of extra miles, and I have to start at the Canadian border and head south, but at least I have an itinerary. I really chafe at all the rules and regulations in the national parks. I understand why they are necessary with all the people doing stupid shit, but thru hikers understand LNT (leave no trace) and should be given a bit more latitude than the general public. And if wishes were fishes…

I ran into my old friend Eeyore at Brownies hostel.  We had dinner together at Serrano’s and caught up with our adventures since New Mexico.  Poor guy is quitting.  He says he has no energy and tendinitis and is not enjoying himself.  I feel really bad for him, and I hope he makes the right choice for himself.

Tomorrow I have a ride at 7:00 with John to Chief Mountain at the Canadian border where I will start a 7 day southbound journey back here.
