I was warned that the Pintlers to the south of me were still unpassable by normal humans on foot due to heavy snows and decided to jump back to Roger’s Pass and head north to the Canadian border. The northern section of the CDT is at lower elevations and I think should be mostly snow free by now. I will finish that section and then hitch back here to Anaconda later to continue south.
I ate breakfast at the hotel, checked out, and wandered down to the Thriftway Super Shop. I asked the lady behind the counter if she knew anyone who would be willing to drive me to Lincoln (the closest town to Rogers Pass), and she put me in contact with her husband Ted. Ted showed up 15 minutes later – an older guy with a nice clean looking pickup. Ted was really fun. He told me stories of his younger days non-stop for the 2 hours it took to get to Lincoln. He once was the only guy in a pool with 20 nude women. Or so the story goes. 🙂
Ted dropped me off at the Sportsman Hotel in Lincoln. I dumped my stuff in the very nice room and ate a decent lunch at the Wheel Inn. A friendly disabled guy rode up on a bicycle and ate lunch with me. He told me stories about all the drug problems in Lincoln. What a shame – this is a nice little town with friendly people.
I ate dinner at Lambkins, which was awful! It seemed like it was some sort of frozen chicken thing that was in the freezer too long and dried out. Now I know why the restaurant was almost empty. I probably should just stick with a hamburger and french fries in these small towns. Oh, well. At least the soda pop was good!
