I left the Trujillo family campsite early. Jerry got up to shake my hand and say goodbye. What a nice and interesting guy! Their generator ran all night and about drove me crazy at times but I still managed to sleep. It was a relief to get away from all the racket though. Cowboy was still asleep in his tent when I left. I thought maybe he was going to hang around for breakfast with the Trujillos so I just silently left.
After an hour or so I stopped for breakfast at a sunny spot. As I was eating I heard a noise on the hillside below me. I looked to see a cow staring at me through the bushes. What curious and funny creatures. She hung around me the entire time I sat there eating.
About an hour later cowboy caught up with me and we hiked and talked together for the rest of the day. We scared up a couple of elk and visited with several hunters. Cowboy spent some time talking with his new girlfriend since we had cell reception at times, and we took some breaks sitting in the sun and enjoying the beautiful day.
23.5 miles later we stopped near Cajillion lake and made camp complete with a fire. We ate dinner around the fire and talked about survival techniques with a bow drill and other things. I can hear coyotes howling away nearby as I type this. They are quite close. I love hearing them howling and carrying on.
Just 26.5 miles left to ghost ranch – we may try to do it all tomorrow. Have to see…
