Day 2 Water Cache 2

Breaking camp at water cache 1

We had an insane cow mooing last night.  I swear it was right in camp. I like cows as long as they don’t trample me in my sleep. Many people take the dirt road in the bottom of the valley, but we chose to follow the CDT along the base of the hills.  We should have taken the road.  🙂  There were a lot of ups and downs for the first 5 miles, and then we descended to a hot shadeless basin with deep, soft sand. All the sand is hard on my bad ankle, but the pain is manageable.

Rick (Yoshi) and Pat at one of the huge rock cairns through this section.  I saw a snake today, but not a rattler.

We made it to the second water cache after 10 long miles.   It is now 5:30 and we are hiding in the shade of the water cache box waiting for the sun to get a little lower.  We are going to camp here with Chips and Queso from Austin, Yoshi from Albuquerque, and Angel Feet (from Germany Pat thinks).  Rick is not feeling well.  He left some stuff in the water cache box (to save weight) for Radar (the guy who runs the shuttle) to put in the Lordsburg hiker box.  I hope he is going to be ok. Angel Feet is a nice guy.  He has come a long way to do this trail and he seems very determined.
