Day 30 Zero in Grants

Getting my resupply organized

Happy mother’s day! I only saw a small portion of Grants where the hotels and Walmart are since this area is far removed from the rest of the town.  Pat and I each have a room at the Quality Inn. This is the first I’ve seen him since he left the trail a week ago with extreme foot pain. He went to the ER in Grants and was diagnosed with a serious foot infection. It looked awful with a dark purple core and radiating lines under the skin. They have him on oral and topical antibiotics and he is slowly recovering now. Pat is never one to complain and I had no idea how serious it was until now. He must have been in agony walking on that all those miles.

I also have my own foot issues, although not as bad as Pat. My feet had a lot of blisters and peeling skin from all the rain of the last few days (they were constantly soaking wet), and the 20 mile road walk into Grants only made them worse.

Relaxing with some ice on my messed up foot
Very busy train route going east west through Grants

We can see/hear trains go by in the distance from our windows every hour or so loaded with military vehicles and other large things.  I think this is one of the main east/west transport routes. We resupplied at Walmart (where I ran into Link) and ate at Denny’s, Taco Bell, and the Asian Super Buffet.
