Day 24 Pat Has to Leave Trail

Today was a sad day.  Pat’s foot never got better.  We walked down to the Does restaurant for breakfast and it hurt the entire way.  We ate an odd breakfast.  My omelette had like 5 vegetables but no meat and was dry.  The pancake was some weird cornbread thing with butter sauce for syrup???
Anyway, Pat wanted to continue so Zee picked up Eeyore, Pat, and me and drove us back to the CDT.

Pat made it 8 miles to the campground near Mangas Mountain.  Eeyore and I had to wait for him quite a bit all morning and were becoming increasingly concerned. In the campground we found Russel, an awesome trail angel who gave us all A&W root beers – my favorite!  He also agreed to take Pat to Pie Town tomorrow so he could hitch a ride to Grants and go to the ER to have his foot looked at.

Eeyore and I sadly left Pat in the campground with Russel and continued on.  We were running late and really wanted to get over Mangus mountain before dark. We almost made it. We went over the top and started down the other side before deciding to leave the road and hike over to a gently sloping forested ridge. We are currently camped at 9000 feet and it is cold!  Oh and I touched my first snow of the hike! I sure hope Pat gets fixed up and is waiting to rejoin us in Grants.  Fingers crossed!
