Day 8 Engineers Windmill

Pat had to mail something so we couldn’t get out of Lordsburg until 10:30.  By then it was already hot and we had to ascend a huge, shadeless alluvial plain as we head to the Burro mountains.  It is supposed to be 87 today, and this area looks like death – flat, dusty, and dry.  Even the weeds crunch as you walk on them and the sun is relentless.  We were so grateful it was a windy day to keep us a little cool.

Taking a break just before the Burro Mountains

We ascended to a valley in the Burro Mountains and hiked up the wash to Engineers Windmill where we camped.  The water was excellent but we made the mistake of opening the valve on the tank too much and ended up with floaties.  We cowboy camped on our first grassy spot!  This is a really nice spot down in a sandy wash with some shade near the rock walls. It is early evening and cooling down.  I love places like this.
