My name is Daniel Smith (TicTac). Welcome to my 2019 thru hike of the Continental Divide Trail. The sections below are organized chronologically. I have continuous footsteps from Mexico to Canada, but the order is a bit jumbled as I tried to avoid the extremely heavy snows in 2019 and some logistical problems. In summary I went:
- NOBO (NorthBound) from Mexico to Ghost Ranch
- SOBO (SouthBound) from Rogers Pass to Anaconda
- NOBO from Rogers Pass to East Glacier
- SOBO from Canada to East Glacier
- SOBO from Anaconda to Ghost Ranch

- Total distance hiked: 2621 miles
- Total ascent: 439,703 feet
- Total number of days on trail: 165
- Number of zero’s (days I took off and rested in a town): 18
- Average daily mileage including zero’s: 15.9
- Average daily mileage excluding zeros: 17.6
This hike would not have been possible if not for my awesome support crew, which consisted solely of my wife Barb. She sent me resupply boxes as needed, listened to my incessant trail ramblings whenever I could get a phone connection, obtained hotel reservations and trail angel rides, ordered shoes and supplies and arranged for them to be sent the next town, and was always looking out for me. I love and appreciate her very much!
